Fort McMurray has a great tradition of developing highly-skilled Strongman competitors, with some of Alberta’s best coming from right here in town. You’ll get to see these remarkable athletes here in Fort McMurray at the end of July! This FREE family-friendly event will feature some of Alberta’s strongest men, competing in mind-bending events like the Hercules Hold and the Car Walk. These feats of incredible strength must be seen to be believed! This is sure to be an exciting event for the whole family.
Western Canada Watercross Association Championship – Rounds 7&8

For many people, their ideal summer weekend here in Northern Alberta might feature a relaxing couple of days by the lake, enjoying the sunshine, taking in the sights, camping out with family & friends, and forgetting about the pile of work on their plate come Monday morning. Baseball Canada 18U National Championship

Fort McMurray’s hottest sports ticket of the summer will be for the 18U National Championship, a premier Baseball Canada event featuring teams from 9 provinces and the hometown Fort McMurray Oil Giants. Building on the great success of the 2016 Baseball Canada Cup hosted in Fort McMurray, this is sure to be a terrific event with some very high-level baseball on display from Canada’s most talented young players. Canadian Sitting Volleyball National Team Exhibition Series vs Keyano Huskies

This event is focused on generating awareness of high-performance adaptive sports athletes, and the incredible athletic feats they can achieve despite their physical challenges. The Canadian national team for Sitting Volleyball, who competed at the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympics, will be in Fort McMurray for a weekend of community outreach, training camps, fundraising events, and a main event: 2 exhibition sitting volleyball matches versus the 2017 ACAC runners up, the Keyano Huskies. Fort McMurray Marathon
Lace Up, Let’s Go! Expanded from its traditional Half Marathon distance by popular demand, the inaugural Fort McMurray Marathon will offer 6 different race distances for all ages and ability levels. The race will feature a Kid’s Fun Run, 3KM, 5KM, 10KM, 21.1KM and the full 42.2KM distances. More than just a race to push your own limits, this event is aimed at getting the whole family to lace up their sneakers, get a sweat on, and enjoy a beautiful fall day in Fort McMurray. Alberta Bowl High School Football Championship
SMS Equipment Stadium
There are few things more iconic in the Albertan fall than football, from Friday Night Lights in small rural communities to the Eskimos or Stampeders playing for another Grey Cup championship. For the first time this fall, SMS Equipment Stadium will play host to the best high school football teams in Alberta, competing across multiple divisions from small schools that field 6-Man teams all the way up to powerhouse Calgary and Edmonton high schools that produce nationally-ranked talent bound for USPORTS or the NCAA. The weekend will be a football festival with games taking place on Friday and Saturday and a great buzz around the big stadium.
